Low Cost Car Hire Glasgow Airport
My partner and I decided to spend our holiday getaway time in Scotland a few years ago. Nothing odd about that I hear you saying as we reside in Scotland. Except like most Scots we travel abroad for the weather and seashores and to visit other amazing cities and towns. In our time overseas we have had the privilege to meet up with and speak to a lot of travelers. They all have the identical thoughts and opinions that Scotland has not only wonderful towns and cities but fantastic rugged landscape and nice , welcoming people.
The grass is always greener on the other side everyone keeps telling me. We have never considered to stay and holiday in our own nation before now. After coordinating and collecting our hired car. We jam-packed the car up to the brim and where quickly on our way up north from Glasgow. Wonderful time of the year to view the country at her greatest. Excellent scenery starts up out in front of you when you leave the city behind and head into the country.
Our first leg of our touring holiday was a place called Fort William. This can be found on the west coast of Scotland at the foot of the Scottish Highlands along the A82 scenic route from Glasgow. After only about 30 minutes in the car, you will be surprised how far you have driven into the countryside. Quickly leaving the bright lights of the city behind you and on the start of your autumn adventure. Beautiful scenery in the distance over the hills and mountains and not a motorway in sight. .
There are sseveral places on the map we could have stopped over on our holiday but we decided to make Fort William our base for a couple of days. We took a little trip to the base of Ben Nevis which is considered Scotland’s tallest mountain and also the most known one to all our visitors. We decided not to walk up to the summit of Ben Nevis as other visitors had informed us it would probably take around 7 hours to the top and back down again.
I am sure I would be correct and saying you have heard of Glencoe. Everyone who knows their Scottish history will be screaming from the roof tops. The distance from Glencoe to Fort William is reasonable. The distance is around 25 miles in driving time. The winter time brings all the skiers and folks with sledges to this neck of the woods. During the summer months with breathtaking views and glorious scenery , there is no other place to be.Along the way you can stop off and pick up some souvenirs from the local villages such as Glenfinnan Village, Arisaig, Glenuig and many more.
Kingussie and Aviemore are two very pretty villages along the A9 to Inverness. Kingussie and Aviemore both have a train station if you prefer to take the train instead of renting a car. We stayed for two nights in Kingussie in a guest house so we could tour around the area and take in the terrific views.
While staying in Kingussie and Aviemore we managed to sample some local cuisine and some local refreshments. We took a trip out to the Highland Wildlife Park which is fantastic day for all age groups. The park life includes lots of various animals to view which include wild cattle, deer, tigers and lots more. A superb day out not far from Kingussie located at Kincraig. After our visit to the park on the day back we noticed that there was a chance to take a glider plane up in the sky with a trained pilot. I was one of the last planes to fly that evening what a spectacular view I had just as the sun was setting behind the trees. Such an exhilarating rush to fly as free as the birds but in the very safe hands of the trained pilots. Have a go if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.
There are places of interest to visit closeby to Fort William. If you have watched the any of the Harry Potter pictures. A small film named Local Hero. A big budget movie named Highlander. Then a trip on a steam train would be in order. Try out a return journey aboard the Jacobite Train. An attraction which everyone will enjoy is the Highland Folk Museum. An outdoor attraction which is around one mile. Visitors can see and take part in life enjoyed in a by gone era.
Fort William has loads to offer the visitor to the area. Wonderful scenery and a warm welcome awaits you. Attempt one thing brand new each and every day thats the moto. Sit back and loosen up and observe the world go by. The choice is yours.
